Sigorta Izmir shed light on the future of the sector
The leading representatives of the industry, who came together in Sigorta Izmir, discussed the future of insurance on many topics, from digitalization to artificial intelligence.

Sigorta İzmir - Insurance Stakeholders Cooperation Fair and Summit opened its doors at Fuar İzmir on June 11, 2026. The organization will continue until June 13; It brings together the leading representatives of the sector, from insurance companies to experts, from agencies to brokers, from assistance companies to public institutions. In the panels and sessions spread over three days, the agenda of the insurance industry and the topics that will shape its future are discussed.

The fair organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce and the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK); It is supported by well-established institutions of the sector. The organization is fully supported by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB), Turkish Insurance Association (TSB), Insurance Agencies Executive Committee (SAİK), Insurance Experts Executive Committee (SEİK), Izmir Chamber of Commerce (İZTO) and Aegean Region Chamber of Industry (EBSO). IUC Events is the event partner of the fair, hosted by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and organized by İZFAŞ.
In the first panel organized within the scope of Insurance İzmir, the current dynamics of the insurance industry and the strategic road map for the future were discussed under the title "Insurance Sector, Current Issues and Future Strategies". The panel, which brought together the leading representatives of the sector, shed light on the transformation process of insurance and also revealed the importance of cooperation between the public, private sector and professional organizations. To the panel; TOBB Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and EBSO Chairman of the Board of Directors Ender Yorgancılar, SEDDK Deputy Chairman Ali Burak Kurtulan, TSB President Ahmet Yaşar, TOBB HRH President Levent Korkut and TOBB SEİK President Ahmet Nedim Erdem took part as speakers. The panel was moderated by journalist Birant Yıldız.
“Izmir is a strategic center for the insurance industry”
TOBB Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors and EBSO Chairman of the Board of Directors Ender Yorgancılar said, “I find organizations such as the Insurance Izmir Fair extremely valuable. Izmir is a strategic center for the insurance industry with its strong industrial infrastructure, production capacity and trade volume. While such fairs strengthen the bond between the industry and insurance, they also strengthen the current problems and solution areas of the sector. Yorgancılar stated that it can sometimes be more difficult to provide coverage in risk insurance, especially in high-risk sectors such as chemistry, wood and plastic, and said, "As industrialists, we are increasingly securing our assets with insurance to ensure production continuity. At this point, it is of great importance that insurance activities are carried out by experts in their fields. Considering Izmir's production power and industrial diversity, I believe that the Insurance Izmir Fair will be an important contribution to this development. "I think it is a platform," he said.
He gave information about the new regulations
SEDDK Deputy Chairman Ali Burak Kurtulan pointed out the new regulations for participation insurance and retirement system and said, "We aim to pave the way for new investment opportunities with the structural changes to be made in this field. Istanbul Financial Center will be one of the important centers of this transformation. It is extremely critical for our companies to work in harmony with the supervisory and regulatory institutions and the sector stakeholders."
Drawing attention to the low insurance rate
TSB President Ahmet Yaşar pointed out that insurance penetration in Turkey should be increased and said, "There is a significant potential in home insurance in Turkey. Although approximately 43 percent of houses with electricity subscriptions are active, the insurance rate remains at 25 percent. Similarly, it is of great importance to share and analyze this data properly. "As a sector, we must correctly identify our shortcomings and take the necessary steps to close these gaps," he said.Yaşar said, "Increasing insurance awareness is a fundamental element not only for our industry, but also for the economic resilience of our country."
He emphasized the role of agencies
TOBB HRH President Levent Korkut emphasized the role of agencies in the insurance industry and said, "Agencies need to be moved to a more priority and strong position in insurance sales. Agencies are one of the most important sales channels of the sector. Strengthening this structure will help both the growth of the sector and a sustainable model from which all stakeholders will benefit." "Supporting the agency system not only increases the sales volume but also accelerates the spread of insurance awareness among the base," he said.
The role of artificial intelligence in insurance
TOBB SEİK President Ahmet Nedim Erdem touched upon the effects of artificial intelligence technologies on the insurance sector and said, "Artificial intelligence offers significant contributions to the insurance industry, but it also brings new risks. Especially fake damage documents and manipulated images constitute an important risk area. "We can minimize these risks with artificial intelligence-supported image processing technologies. Big data must not only be collected but also compared and analyzed correctly. In addition, it is of great importance to strengthen the control mechanisms and increase on-site inspections in the field. The role of the expert in the field should be made more effective by supporting it with technological tools."
He talked about digitalization in the insurance sector. The key speaker of the first day was Başkent University Vice Rector. Dr. He became Erdem Kırkbeşoğlu. Known for his academic studies in the field of insurance, Prof. Dr. Kırkbeşoğlu discussed the technological transformation in the sector in his presentation titled "Digitalization in the Insurance Sector". Stating that digital transformation represents a new era in the development of the insurance industry, Kırkbeşoğlu said that insurance has evolved from experience-based applications to a data-oriented structure. Prof. stated that today, thanks to big data and advanced analysis methods, risks can be evaluated much more accurately. Dr. Kırkbeşoğlu stated that more precise pricing can be made by analyzing many parameters such as age, gender, profession, region of residence and vehicle features at the same time.
