Two important exhibitions from İş Sanat and Arkas Sanat

The "1914 Generation: Painters We Know" exhibition, meeting art lovers at the Turkish İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum, brings together the İş Bankası and Arkas collections.

"Lumina: The Art of Color and Light", the first step of the Arkas Sanat-Centre Pompidou exhibition series, of which İş Sanat is the exhibition sponsor, is waiting for art lovers in Izmir until February 14, 2027.

Türkiye İş Bankası Painting and Sculpture Museum's new temporary exhibition“1914 Generation: Painters We Know”brings together approximately 200 works from the Türkiye İş Bankası and Arkas collections. The exhibition focuses on the painters who were sent to Paris after receiving their first art education in Istanbul and returned home with the outbreak of World War I in 1914, thus referred to as the "1914 Generation". The exhibition, which includes the works of İbrahim Çallı, Feyhaman Duran, Namık İsmail, Sami Yetik, Ali Sami Boyar, Hüseyin Avni Lifij, Mehmed Ruhi Arel, Nazmi Ziya Güran and Hikmet Onat, as well as the works of their teachers, contemporaries and the subsequent generations they influenced, presents the influence of this generation on Turkish painting with a holistic view.

Sözen: “Transforming art into social memory.” generation…”

İş Bank Deputy General Manager Suat Sözen, in his speech at the opening of the exhibition, stated that the 1914 generation represents not only a change of style in Turkish painting, but a radical transformation of mentality; He said that the representatives of this generation, after maturing their journey that started in Sanayi-i Nefise in the workshops in Paris, returned home and brought a brand new breath to our painting. Sözen said, "They went beyond academic patterns and pursued the open air, the changing light of the Bosphorus, nature and people. Every color they transferred to the canvas with their brush strokes actually became the aesthetic harbinger of the upcoming modern Türkiye. This generation, which transformed art into a social memory with the works they produced, laid the foundation stones of Republic painting." "The Group's determination to preserve, preserve and share the cultural heritage is the most concrete evidence of the inspiring level that private collecting and museology has reached in Türkiye today. Without Mr. Lucien Arcas' sincere love for art and visionary approach, it would not have been possible to bring together these rare works of the 1914 generation in this depth and integrity," he said.

Arkas: "When two institutions that value each other work together, the result is very good." "

Arkas Holding Chairman of the Board of Directors Lucien Arkas stated that it is a great privilege to cooperate with Türkiye İş Bankası in the field of art and said, "There is strength in unity; when two institutions that value each other do business together, it gives great results. I hope that this partnership we established with İş Bankası in the field of art will be an example for everyone. I want the institutions to combine their strengths and make people love art." and together with his students

The exhibition includes first the works of the teachers of the 1914 Generation, and then the works of the representatives of the generation, listed according to their subjects. Examples of the works of painters who produced works in the same period and the students of the 1914 Generation are also presented. In addition to the work "Waiting" by Fernand Cormon, one of the teachers of the 1914 Generation, İbrahim Çallı's "Woman Smelling the Roses", Feyhaman Duran's "Girl in Blue Shalwar", Namık İsmail's "Harman" and Hikmet Onat's "Landscape-Ortaköy", the first work of the Türkiye İş Bankası Artworks Collection, can be seen in the exhibition. Nazmi Ziya's nature reflections, Avni Lifij's mysterious compositions, Ali Sami Boyar's works, Sami Yetik and Ruhi Arel's hometown views are also included in the selection.
