“Intersecting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters” Welcomes Visitors with Its Renewed Face

Intersecting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters, one of the collection exhibitions of Pera Museum, meets visitors again with its updated face. The focus of the changes in the selection is Casper Faassen's six-work contemporary art installation titled Recompilation, which replaced Alejandro Almanza Pereda's Fear of the Void. The exhibition also welcomes art lovers by being enriched with two watercolors by Louis-François Cassas and the work titled "Conversation" by the Vanmour School.

From the collection exhibitions of Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Pera MuseumIntersecting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters meets visitors with its renewed face. Focusing on the diplomatic, cultural and artistic interactions between the Ottoman Empire and Europe, the exhibition gains a structure that expands its narrative and gains new layers with the new arrangement.

The most striking change in the exhibition is Alejandro Almanza, who met with visitors for the first time within the scope of the 15th Istanbul Biennial. Pereda's Fear of the Voidwas replaced by theRecompilationseries by Casper Faassen. 

Exhibited since 2017, Fear of the Void established a strong visual language that made visible the tension between construction and destruction. Faassen'sRecompilationseries, consisting of six works, proposes a new reading based on the circulation and displacement of cultural assets.

A new layer on displacement and memory

Faassen traces the finds collected and displaced from different geographies throughout history; develops a view that reverses this movement. The visual language he creates with layered and translucent surfaces leaves images suspended rather than fixed; Thus, it adds a current discussion area to the historical framework of the exhibition through concepts such as memory, loss and belonging. This new layer allows Intersecting Worlds to go beyond being just an exhibition representing the past; It brings together the views of the past and the present on the same plane.

Three works from the collection meet visitors again.

With its updated face, the exhibition is enriched with works that have not been included in the selection for a long time. Reflecting the observations of the French artist Louis-François Cassas in Istanbul and different geographies, the Acropolis of Athens and OlympusTemple of Zeus and the Sultanahmet from Kadıköy Cape His watercolors, titled View of the Mosque, reveal how travel, exploration and visual recording practices were intertwined in the 18th and 19th centuries, creating a deepening layer of meaning in partnership with Faassen's installationRecompilation.

Included in the exhibition is Vanmour. The work titled Sohbet, signed by the School, focuses on productions that deal with the daily life and social scenes of Istanbul from a Western perspective. These works are among the important examples that make visible the cultural transmission styles of the period and how the Eastern image was established in Europe. 

Expanding selection, deepening narrative

Intersecting Worlds: Ambassadors and Painters, with its new face, addresses the multi-layered encounters between the Ottomans and Europe from a broader perspective. This building, where the themes of diplomacy, art and cultural heritage are intertwined, offers a more in-depth reading with the works that have come to light again.

Pera Museum can be visited between 10.00-19.00 from Tuesday to Saturday and 12.00-18.00 on Sundays.All visitors can visit the museum free of charge between 18.00-22.00 on Fridays as part of "Long Friday", and all students can visit the museum free of charge on Wednesdays as part of "Young Wednesday".
