97% Charge in 9 Minutes, 1000+ km Range
The new generation Blade Battery 2.0 and FLASH Charging system developed by BYD makes charging time in electric vehicles as easy as refueling. The first model in Europe to carry the two new technologies will be the DENZA Z9GT, the flagship of BYD's premium brand.

BYD, the world's leading new energy vehicle manufacturer, announced two revolutionary technologies at an event held in China, aiming to eliminate basic barriers such as charging time and range anxiety to the further spread of electric vehicles globally. The company, which has technology in its DNA, significantly reduces charging times and makes range concerns a thing of the past with its new generation ultra-fast charging FLASH Charging system, which provides 1,500 kW of power through a single connector, and Blade Battery 2.0, the second generation of its iconic battery.
97 percent charge in nine minutes
BYD's new technologies offer record-breaking charging performance, regardless of weather conditions. Thanks to its ultra-fast charging capacity, the battery level reaches from 10 percent to 70 percent in just five minutes and from 10 percent to 97 percent in just nine minutes. Even at temperatures as low as -30°C, which is one of the most challenging conditions for electric vehicles, the FLASH Charging unit can charge the Blade Battery 2.0 from 20 percent to 97 percent charge in just 12 minutes. With the increase in energy storage density, it provides a range of over 1,000 kilometers on a single charge, according to Chinese CLTC efficiency tests.
Blade Battery 2.0: Faster charging, more range, extra safety
As a result of six years of intensive research and development, the 2nd Generation Blade Battery offers a charging experience equivalent to the refueling speed of internal combustion vehicles. Under normal conditions, the inverse relationship between the high energy density of the battery and the charging speed has been eliminated with BYD's new generation battery technology. To achieve this performance, BYD developed the “FlashPass” Ion Transport System, which expands the boundaries of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.
Technical gains in energy density and charging speed have not compromised safety or durability. Blade Battery 2.0 successfully passed the world's first simultaneous FLASH Charging and Nail Drilling Test without creating thermal runaway, smoke or fire, even after 500 FLASH Charging cycles. In addition, there was no fire or explosion in the thermal runaway test, where four cells were simultaneously subjected to a forced short circuit and the temperature exceeded 700°C. In addition, improvements have been made on the lifespan side.
In addition, the total capacity loss has been reduced by 2.5 percent compared to the first generation Blade Battery.
Ultra-fast charging time with FLASH Charging
BYD has installed over 4,200 FLASH Charging Stations across China as of March 2026, and this number will increase by the end of the year. It is expected to reach 20,000. To support this rapid deployment, the stations work with an integrated energy storage system with ultra-fast discharge that helps overcome grid constraints. This reservoir battery system, which is charged at a lower rate, is positioned as both an energy reservoir that balances the load on the network and a power support unit that enables high-power charging.
The problem of heavy connectors and cables touching the ground, which are frequently criticized in traditional charging stations, is eliminated with the T-shaped top design of FLASH Charger. The lightweight connector and roller rail system provide easy and ergonomic connection regardless of the location of the charging port on the vehicle.
European expansion will begin with DENZA Z9GT
New technologies were developed as a result of comprehensive research and engineering studies to eliminate charging time and range anxiety, which are the biggest concerns of consumers in the transition to electric mobility.
The first model in Europe to carry FLASH Charging and Blade Battery 2.0 technologies will be DENZA Z9GT, the flagship of BYD's premium brand. BYD is clear about its goal of making FLASH Charging Stations accessible on a global scale.
